Don't Just Take My Word for It

Meet Laura
I blame my mother. My love of homes stems from my mom's constant dreaming of the house she was going to build one day. You see, I grew up in a two-bedroom, one bathroom rickety farmhouse that my mom called The Love Shack. She said you had to be in love to live there, which probably explains why I'm so close with my parents and four siblings.
Every year we were painting or adding wallpaper or even adding a whole wall to turn two bedrooms into three. Each project came with an explanation that she was practicing for her new house.Eventually I moved out of the farmhouse and into a college dorm (Go Hawks!). When I came home for that Thanksgiving break, The Love Shack was gone. It had been replaced by The Castle on The Hill. This grandiose title was bestowed by our young neighbor girl but it kind of stuck. The Castle boasts six bedrooms, three-and-a-half bathrooms, a grand two-story great room, and a kitchen and dining room that Mom likes to point out is the same amount of square feet as the entire living space of The Love Shack. And though I've never truly lived in The Castle, it still feels like home to me when I'm there.
It is home to me because people I love are there. It's home because I am safe there. It's home because I'm free to be 100% me while I'm there. I feel the same way in the house I share with my husband. This is the core of why I do this job. The physical features of our houses change with time. They get bigger or smaller or have new floors or new kitchens but the feelings that our homes give us are universal. It's important to me to be a part of helping others find the place that is going to shelter them and their dreams until they become reality.
